New Feature – Burn Disk Image in Windows 7

Introduction

Previously, with Windows XP or Windows Vista for example, if you had an ISO or IMG file and wanted to burn it to a CD/DVD, you would need a 3rd party application, such as Nero, in order to be able to burn this image file to the CD/DVD. Now, Windows 7 natively support the ability to burn ISO/IMG images directly within Windows without the need of a 3rd party application. This feature is free and simple to use. In this article, I will be showing you how easy this feature is to use.

Note : This article was written when Windows 7 was still in BETA 1, changes might occur later to the product once it is RTM.

I have an ISO file located on my Windows 7 desktop, and need to burn this ISO file to a DVD.

1. 1. Insert a blank CD/DVD into your CD/DVD drive
   2. Double Click or Right click on the ISO file and click on Burn disk image
   3. The Burn Disk Image utility will open and will give you the option using a drop down list to select the CD/DVD drive you want to burn to.
      If you want Windows to verify the disc image after burning the CD/DVD, then enable the checkbox beside the Verify disc after burning. Be informed that if you enabled this option, its process requires additional time. So keep it unchecked if you can not wait.
   4. Once you click on the Burn button, burning the ISO image to the CD/DVD will start. The progress bar will show you the process of the operation.
      Note : Personally, I would like this to have a timer as well, showing in minutes and seconds how long the operation still needs till it finishes. Maybe also adding the option to control the burning speed. Do not forget that Windows 7 is still in Beta 1, and the utility might be enhanced later once the product is RTM.
   5. When burning process finishes, the Status turns from Burning disc image to recordable disc… to The Disc image has been successfully burned to disc. and the DC/DVD disc will automatically be ejected from the drive. Click on Close button
      That’s it !!!! Your disc is ready to be used.
      

Summary

Windows 7 has lots of new features, one of them is the Burn Disk Image feature. Using it, you can burn ISO/IMG files without the need of any 3rd party application.
